Though I only spent a day in Marfa, it is impossible to fit everything I did into one post so here we go post II: where to eat and shop (along with a few other little tips!).
We stopped for a little lunch en plein air at Capri Marfa. I have to hand it to the exterior designers of the Capri for creating such a lush garden oasis in the middle of West Texas.
We drank up our hibiscus margaritas and feasted on an assortment of made to order steak, cactus, and hibiscus tacos. The gentleman selling the tacos outside informed us that they only accepted cash but if we didn't have cash ready, we could pay him later or if we enjoyed them. This easy going attitude flowed through almost every experience we had in Marfa. We tried to go to the Food Shark, a food truck that offers a variety of Middle Eastern food, and Hombres, which offers a variety of different food options, but, sadly, when we stopped in both were closed. This is a good example of Marfa's very small town feel. You might expect things to be open as posted online but then find a note (like the one below) saying that they're away or not open randomly. All part of the experience. All part of that relaxed Marfa attitude.
For a small town, Marfa has quite the array of small, unique shops and boutiques. I have to say my absolute favorite was the Marfa Museum Thift Store, which is were I purchased this vintage mint green two piece nighty for a whomping $5. There were so many gems in this little shop. Few items have price tags but most pieces are very affordable. Other shops that I enjoyed: Freda and Cobra Rock. Both boutiques offer more handmade, artisan products rather than vintage finds.
At the end of all your shopping, grab a green tea or lavender favored ice cream, as seen in the very first image, at Big Bend Coffee Roasters, a colorful ice cream and coffee shop/laundromat close to the Hotel Paisano. Just follow the coffee and ice cream signs which are strategically placed throughout town. However, if a brew is more your speed, I would recommend checking out the eclectic Planet Marfa Beer Garden.
