The Cajun Village
Have you ever been driving on the highway glancing over your sustenance options and musing, "Hm. That local places looks like it could be amazing or food poisoning..." Exactly what happens to us almost every road trip we take. Well, lend me your ears because this does not need to happen to you if you're between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
Now to be totally fair, I heard about this little Cajun Village from my sister, who lives in Baton Rouge. It is to die for. We had a lunch of gumbo and red beans and rice at the Coffee House in the village, which was good. The beignets, however, are amazing like some of the best I've ever eaten.
There are several little shops which sell antiques, handmade goods, monograming services, and specialty foods. The little Cajun village is even home to two live alligators (I'm a total tourist.). So, if you happen to be in the area and in no particular rush give this little village a shot. In my modest opinion, certainly beats McDonald's.
