Day 1 in Denver: The Mile High City

Theresa Rawicki November 14, 2016

We just got back from a short, amazing trip to visit Nate's sister, Maddog, in Denver. Neither of us had ever been to Colorado before but we will certainly be back in the future!

Day 1: Boulder and Golden

Rincon Argentino

We started our visit with lunch in Boulder with mate and empanadas at Rincon Argentino. This was such a gem of a find! The mate was just what we needed to wake us up after staying up far too late watching the election results. The empanadas were, according to Nate, who studied in Argentina, "authentic and perfect because they were just a little spicier than empanadas in Argentina." This little spot is so colorful with a great outdoor seating area to enjoy the lovely Colorado weather.  We absolutely LOVED this place!

Lookout Mountain and Cannonball Creek Brewery

We wanted to see some of the natural grandeur of Colorado but we were a little pressed on time so we drove up to Lookout Mountain. The pictures say it all. The views were absolutely breathtaking. And because every "hike" should end with a toast, we stopped at Cannonball Creek Brewery on the way home. They have 8-14 beers rotating at all times. We loved Brickyard Porter, the Rosemary Sourdough Saison, and the Trump Hands Session IPA, which won Gold for the session IPA at GABF 2016.

Charleston I: Best Birthday Trip Ever
Dec 2, 2016

I've been a huge Dolly fan since I was a preteen and her "Backwoods Barbie" came up on my teeny bopper AOL account suggested music. When Nate and I were dating, I made him promise to take me to see Dolly Parton one day.  Being a man of his word, Nate booked us tickets to see Dolly and planned the most amazing birthday weekend trip to historic Charleston. Below is how we spent our first full day in the Holy City.

Have you ever been driving on the highway glancing over your sustenance options and musing, "hm. That local places looks like it could be amazing or food poisoning..." Exactly what happens to us almost every road trip we take. Well, lend me your ears because this does not need to happen to you if you're between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

As I write this last post about the quirky East Nashville area, I'm reminded of all of the wonderful memories made during Nate's rotations. These rotations have been full of exhausting, exciting travel  and the business of work but I can't help but feel so blessed we experienced this together. Now, we're planning trips for the fun few months of freedom before Nate starts interviews for residency.
